PRINT TYPES - DEFINITIONS:
Light Jet - A print made from a 'Lightjet' laser printer that reads a digital file, then uses red, green and blue lasers to expose the image onto Type C (light sensitive) photographic paper. The paper is then processed in RA-4 chemistry, a wet darkroom process.
Archival Pigment Print - Archival pigment printing denotes a printmaking process incorporating refined particles of pigment that are resilient to the environmental elements that commonly degrade and erode dye molecules shortening the life of a print.
In the case of Asymbol we use inkjet technology to create pigment prints.
Mixed Media - Refers to an artwork in the making of which more than one medium has been employed.
Screen Printing - A printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil to receive a desired image. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A fill blade or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink into the mesh openings for transfer by capillary action during the squeegee stroke
BFK - Traditional fine art paper with a slight texture.
Cotton Rag - An ultra smooth fine art paper.
Fuji Crystal Archive - a professional "Light sensitive" chromogenic print paper used for light jet printing.
GSM (gram) - a term used in the pulp and paper industry and also for fabric industry to denote a measure of mass of the product per unit of area for a type of fabric, paper or paperboard. The higher the number the thicker the paper.
Presentation Matte - 192 gsm bright white paper with a matte finish.
Vibrance Baryta - a combination of 100% alpha cellulose base and a premium inkjet-receptive coating containing barium sulphate that creates a high-gloss surface. Bright white and optical brightener free, this photography paper has a fine surface texture and a baryta gloss finish. It is both acid and lignin free and is particularly well suited to black and white images.
Platine Fibre Rag - a 100% cotton rag, ultra smooth glossy fine art paper.
