If I had to sum it up, I'd say that photography opened the door to a life I had really never intended on living. Looking at my love of capturing life’s passing moments, I am incredibly thankful for the celluloid and digital opportunities of our age. It has made living this dream a possibility.
I could have very easily gone in another direction, after all, I am originally from Southern California and to put it mildly, my early influences were all over the map. Luckily, I moved to the Sierra Nevada mountains when I was eighteen and it was in that raw environment, a place of unimaginable beauty, that I saw a lifetime of opportunity and my chance to have a more meaningful, simple existence. My interest in photography was the catalyst in this pursuit with snowboarding my main subject. It’s been well over a decade now and from the windswept Andés of South America to the legendary Chugach Range of Alaska, I have been on an endless search for the most extraordinary mountains and most talented riders to photograph. In my possibly futile, but certainly rewarding attempt to convey the power of the mountains and the passions of those who explore them, I have seen more of the world than I could have ever imagined. I have discovered many things on this surprise ride, met some interesting characters and found myself wedged in some unimaginable scenarios. Yet if there is one idea that I am constantly reminded of, this is it: There are countless of paths you can take in your life, while some might lead to a dead end, some inevitably lead to the end all. The only way to find out is to pursue the one you simply know to be true. The mountains, my camera, my snowboard… they’re my "end all".
