A friend of mine took me down under the Burnside Bridge late one Fall. Some skaters had made a bank against the supporting wall. This was the start of, what I think of as the beginning of a revolution for skateparks. The Burnside Skatepark was basically initiated by a bunch of skaters that took it upon themselves to create a place to ride, out of the rain in Portland. They cleaned up this empty lot, kicked out the heroin junkies, and eventually created a whole new idea of what a skatepark should be.
